RESPONSIBILITIES : The Human Resources Generalist (Benefits) position is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of the group benefits programs and manages benefits onboarding for new employees and the separation process for exiting employees. The Human Resources Generalist (Benefits) provides excellent customer service to employees, investigates and resolves issues with carriers and vendors.

REQUIREMENTS : Bachelor’s degree in business or business administration required, with two years of experience in human resources, office management, customer service, and computer applications. Experience coordinating and maintaining professional relationships with brokers, vendors, and other service providers is key due to the need for accurate benefit reconciliation. Must demonstrate strong attention to detail, possess excellent time management skills, exercise sound judgment, and perform duties in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication is required in order to successfully assist employees and understanding various benefits and how they apply to employees’ unique situations. Ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy is essential.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS : Preference will be given to candidates with experience in Colleague with the HR module, PeopleAdmin, and various benefit platforms. Professional or Senior Professional Certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP) in Human Resources highly desired.

Organizational Relationships

The Human Resources Generalist (Benefits) reports to the Assistant Director, Human Resources. The position incumbent interacts with administrative personnel such as Vice Presidents, Deans, Directors, Department Chairs, and all University employees regarding the employee benefits plans. The Human Resources Generalist (Benefits) interacts on a daily basis with representatives of external companies, especially those providing employee benefits. The Benefits Manager also interacts with professional colleagues and actively participates in professional organizations.

The Benefits Manager works in a highly productive office and under pressure due to various deadlines. Deadline pressures require a well-developed sense of teamwork and common purpose. Position calls for initiative, good judgment, and a high degree of responsibility. By nature of the responsibilities of the office, the Benefits Manager works in an atmosphere, which requires a high level of confidentiality. Regular office hours and occasional overtime may be required as circumstances necessitate.
